​The CDC has put together a workgroup to study and establish guidelines for treating children and teens with mild traumatic brain injuries.

There are currently guidelines for treating adults with TBI, but no guidelines for clinicians to treat children or teens with mild TBI.

The CDC has established the Pediatric Mild Traumatic Brain Injury Guideline Workgroup, made up of the leaders in the field of TBI. The group will create clinical guidelines within the next 18 – 24 months to help both doctor's offices and emergency rooms treat pediatric TBI. The guidelines are set to be released in Spring 2014.

Recent data shows approximately 1.7 million people sustain TBI injuries annually and the majority of injuries are classified as mild. Research has shown TBIs build on each other though and multiple mild TBIs can result in significant impairments.
