DOT: Traffic Deaths Up In January

According to the Wisconsin Department of Transportation, 42 people were killed in Wisconsin traffic accidents during the first month of 2012, more than the previous three Januarys officials said Thursday.

According to DOT, the number of fatalities was compared to 39 in January 2011, 20 January 2010 and 35 in January 2009. The deadliest January on record was January 1964, when 82 people died in crashes.

Despite the deaths, no motorists were killed in Marathon County or Lincoln County in January.
