Posted by Roberta Jorgensen Puntillo | Sep 17, 2011 | 0 Comments

A Milwaukee police officer on bicycle patrol was struck Thursday night by a hit-and-run driver. According to reports, the officer was injured when he was struck near Milwaukee's west side by a hit-and-run driver just before 9 p.m. The officer had been making a traffic stop in the 1500 block of W. Vliet Street.

The suspected hit-and-run driver was stopped shortly after 9 p.m.and arrested and the officer was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The officer is the fourth Milwaukee bicycle officer struck in the past week.

Last week, just after midnight early Friday morning, three bicycle patrol officers were struck by a different hit-and-run driver. All three were injured, but not killed in the accident. Officials said they suspect alcohol played a role in both crashes.
