Man Charged In Death Of 6-Year-Old Hit By Car

Derrick Ashford has been charged with knowingly operating a motor vehicle without a valid license, causing death. According to reports, Ashford allegedly struck and killed the boy as he attempted to cross the street. The accident occurred April 17 and Ashford did remain on the scene for questioning.

Ashford is accused of smoking marijuana a few hours prior to the accident as well. He faces up to six years in jail and $10,000 in fines.

The boy was removed from life support when he was pronounced brain dead.
